Elagabalus, 218-222. Aureus (Gold, 21 mm, 6.39 g, 7 h), Rome, 220. IMP ANTONINVS PIVS AVG Laureate and cuirassed bust of Elagabalus to right. Rev. P M TR P III COS III P P Elagabalus seated left on curule chair, holding globe in his right hand and scepter in his left. BMC -, cf. 181 (differing bust type and with star in left reverse field). Calicó 3008 var. (differing bust type). Cohen 167 var. (differing bust type). RIC 34 var. (differing bust type). Thirion 153 corr. (same dies, but misdescribed as having a star on the reverse). Extremely rare, apparently the second known example. A lovely and interesting issue with an elegant portrait. Plugged hole at 12 o'clock and with a few minor scratches and light traces of mounting, otherwise, good very fine.
